The One Laptop Per Child project is currently offering a buy one, get two deal. For $400 you get to give a laptop to a child in a “developing” country and you get one for yourself/your kids. I’ve done this and plan to use the one I get to talk to kids in my daughter’s schools about the OLPC project and its dream of giving kids around the world access to an education. As a recent conversation at JUICE (a conversation convened by Robin Uchida) revealed, this project is (flaws and all) a truly exciting “design for emergence” (thanks Bob Logan & GVA for that, again). I hope that I can not only teach my own kids, but their friends as well, that being in school is a great privilege and that learning can be the adventure of their lifetime.
